Owing to the "West Coast Rugby Union sending down two senior games to lie played at Hokitika on Saturday. the Sub-Union will probably he forced to play the two junior games, (\iwis v. Rimu. and Excelsiors v. Arahura. at 1.80 p.m. Both these junior games have been set down to ho played at Hokitika.

The death took place on Tuesday at the Grey River Hospital of Mr Frederick Cole, after an illness lasting six weeks. Deceased had resided in the Dominion for 70 years, his early years being spent in the Wellington, Taranaki and Morrinsville districts. For over 20 years he was ft West Coast resident, mostly at Cobden. He was aged 74 years, and is survived by a nephew, Mr Sidney Cole .(assistant manager of the Wellington Milk Depot).

Murcott, wife of Mr Clias Murcott, one of the settlers in the Inangahua Valley, Deceased lady was a daughter of the late Aarron Carne, who was one of the pioneers of the district, She had been in had health for the past two years. A meeting of the Committee of the Westland Competitions 'Society was held at the Soldiers’ Hall last evening at 8.10 o’clock. There were present: Mr T). J. Evans (President), Mrs Nelson-Wright, Messrs T. W. Duff, I). H. Stapleton, J. Conning. H. W. Sweney. E, W. Richards and H. Osmers. The Secretary, presents a statement of the; accounts in connection with the late competitions showing the receipts 1 to be £205 3s lOd and the expenses £193 10s 2d, leaving a surplus of £ll 13s 8d on the festival. The Society has now'a credit balance of £165. The statement wns received and adopted after a abort discussion in which it was stated .the extra judge had increased the expenses hut the services were indlspensible. The prize money had increased also, due to the large number- of entries,. Comment was pnssed on the pleasant manner in which the festival had pnssed off and votes of thanks were passed to all who had assisted in the smooth running of the Competitions, The Chairman referred specially to the valuable help contributed by Miss Daly, (the official accompanist), and the ever ready help which always came on demand from Rev Knowles Smith. Various matters in regard to the Competitions wore discussed and the subjects will be taken up later at a further meeting of the Committee. Arrangements were finalised for the social to he held to-night when a large attendance is expected.
