HOKITIKA SCHOOL COMMITTEE.
The Committee met on June 2nd. at I p.m. Present: Messrs A. C. Armstrong (Chairman), .R. J. Redder, J. J. JJreeze, F. Cheater man, IV. H. Shannon, W. H. Sweney, IV. Richards, Conning and Mrs J. If. Wilson. The minutes were confirmed and outward correspondence 'approved. INWARD COR DESPONDENCE.
Front Director of Dental Hygiene, in-reference to provision of an assistant dental nurse, but regretting at present another dental nurse was nol available.—Received. It was resolved to draw the attention of the Department to the fact that a dentist was available. From Education Board. Christchurch, stating subsidy would not he available until accounts for expenditure wore supplied.—Received; referred to Secretary and Treasurer to supply. ! From Miss Maloney, dental nurse, reporting there were during the moiub 354 operations and 130 attendances, with six new and fourteen re-exam in ed.— Received. From Dental nurse, in reference to laundry work for clinic, and asking for two uniforms to ho laundered a week.—• Received. It was resolved to ask for particulars of. authority and to state at present there was no money available for the purpose. From John Studholme, forwarding pamphlet on religious instruction in S|bn tq Sob t —Reqeivod. Accounts as scheduled were passed, for payment.
From Rector (Mr J. L., Menzies) reporting the roll number at end o' term, 9th. June, was:—Primary 313 find' average attendan o 273.5; roll 30th. May 323, average for week £O3. Secondary roll on June 9lli. was 198 and average attendance 131. average for past week 104. Miss E. M. Bell is on sick leave and her pluce has been taken temporarily by Miss M. Williams. , Suggesting the establishment of a prefect system, and asking opinion of -Committee. The School is being represented at the 7-asido and a basket hall tournament}, suggesting pro vision of a new set cf jerseys for the first fifteen with *a distinguishing badge.—Received. It was resolved to approve rtf the installation of the prefect system one! .authority to secure the necessary badges at a cost of £2 9s.
It was' resolved oh the motion of Messrs Richards and Sweney that .20 new Jerseys with suitable monogram be procured. Some discussion took pla e following a reference to the possibility of providing homes in town for pupils desiring to live in town, and it was resolved that enquiry be made through the press on the subject. Mr Shannon reported having attended the High School Board meeting, and having been requested to refer some matters to the Committee for their infrmntion and enquiry. The Committee discussed mutters generally with the Rector and it was ultimately resolved" tha,t -.the Chairman, Secretary, Mr'Shannon and the Rector meet the High School Board members at the first opportunity, to discuss any matters requiring elucidation.
