The report of the Commissioner appointed to enquire into cases of hardship under Land and Income Tax Legislation of last session, shows that 628 objections were submitted for consideration. Of these they recommended the cancellation of the Special Land '.lax in 390 cases, and a reduction of the Special Land Tax in 169 eases. In 23 of the cases submitted they con'sidered Uie tendered did not justify any recommenda. ion for relief In the remaining cases the applicants failed to furnish the ev.deuce required, or failed to appear, or withdre their objections.
'file report says; “'file percentage of cases where total relief was recommended is high, and may be accounted for by the fact that these objectors comprised holders of land who were subject to heavy financial liabilities, combined with other forms of hardship, which called for relief.”
The amount of special tax rec'dnf’7iended to he remitted in full was £86,552 odd, and of partial remisdons £31731 old, making a' total of £118,287.
