BLASTING ACCIDENT
MAN HURLED DOWN QUARRY

A premature explosion, during blasting operations at the Hal swell Quarries, caused Frederick Joseph Sparks, aged 50, to be hurled down the slope from the top of the quarry. He was-Admitted to the hospital with a broken arm, and three broken ribs,; and- suffering from severe shock. A gang of men had placed a. shot in the face of rook-, to ; which-Sparks was allotted the duty; ; of firing the charge. Before Sparks got clear, the charge. fired unexpectedly, and he was; hurled down with a mass of rock. Fortunately, he was not carried io the bottom of the quarry.
