MONDAY, JUNE 9th
The Sub-Union Executive met at 5 p.m. Present: Messrs H. M. Coulson (President), Dowell, Cut-bush, J. Coulson, Mora, Lawn, McGregor, Cooper, Breeze, MeClearv, McDonald and Heenan.
MATCHES, JUNE 14th JUNIORS.
Rimu v. Kiwi at Hokitika, 3 p.m. (Mr D. Heenan). A rah ura v. Excelsiors at Hokitika at 1.30 p.m. (Mr J. Mora).
THIRD GRADE.
School v. Kokatahi at Kokatahi (Mr M. Wallace). An application by W. H. MeAlpine for reinstatement to Rugby was recommended.
Inangahua Sub-Union challenged for the Dfotman Shield.—Received, and challenge accepted for June 27th.. subject to approval of W.C.R.U. The Stationmaster, Hokitika, notified particulars of special train to Christchurch for second test.—Received.. It was resolved to suggest that the train leave Hokitika at midnight on the Friday.
The Chairman’s action in regard to payments on the Merivale match were approved. The Chairman reported the Merivale team had handed oyer their banner to be lield till they brought over another team to win the banner back.
Accounts as scheduled were passed for payment. It was resolved to ask the Mayor to proclaim a holiday on Wednesday, June 11th. from an hour suitable to allow assistants to catch the 12.15 p.m. train.
A motion was carried thanking all who had assisted in the successful running of the 7-aside' tournament. It was resolved to write to G. O’Brien (Riyale) .expressing regret at his unfortunate accident and wishing him a speedy recovery. It was resolved to write to the Canterbury Union expressing entire satisfaction at the behaviour of the Merivale team while in Hokitika.
WEST COAST RUGBY UNION.
The Union Executive met at Greymouth last night.
The New Zealand Union notified that B. Caulton’s appeal against the disqualification imposed upon him had been dismissed, and sentence confirmed.' It was decided to return the deposit for the.appeal to : .t'he Bliiketown Cluii. Referee L. Dewe reported that,talking was prevalent in the KumaraBlaketown junior match at Kumara last Saturday. The President stated that in that case the captains must have had no control over the teams. Nd action was taken over the matter. The New Zealand Union notified that no player was allowed to leave the field at half time in the British ■matches without the permission of the referee, and also that the Union was to adopt the ruling of the Home Unions with regard to a forward pass, namely that the penalty be a scrummage at the place of infringement-. Wataroa School (South. Westland) made application for a football. The matter was referred to the Westland Sub-Union.
A vote of thanks was passed to the Merivale team for playing matches.on tlife West Coast.
Mr F. Eggelton, manager of the Grey team which played Inangahua, voiced his disappointment with the Grey team who, for a start only fielded twelve men, others later being substituted, as those who did not turn up in most .eases had not notified the selector. Mr Dewer stated (that he had seen one of the men selected on the side line. The President said that, players who had done that sort of thing would be noted and would probably be overlooked later. Mr O’Donnell expressed the opinion when the appointment of captain of the Bullor-Coast team was being made, that a man behind the scrum should be appointed, giving as a reason that a player in the scrum did not see all that a captain should see. Mr Adams said that it was a matter of capability.

BULLEtI-COAST TEAM’S CAPTAIN
J. Bell (Brunner) has been appointed captain of the Buller-West Coast .Combined team to meet the Britishers at Victoria Park. V. GoodalJ (Buller) has been appointed vice-captain. Both captain and vice-captain are thus forwards.
SATURDAY’S MATCH

Seen after Saturday’s match, Dailey, Canterbury’s captain, said tna.t the game had been a hard one, although not the hardest in which he had played. He was pleased at the way in which both hacks and forwards had performed for the province. 11l his opinion Canterbury would have been very unlucky had they lost the game.
The considerable advantage in weight of the British team was apparent when the two sides faced each other. Forward the visitors : averaged 13st 121 b. and Canterbury 13st 71b, and hack 13st, as compared with Canterbury’s list 101 b.
THE SECOND TEST.
Extra seating accommodation for ■two or three thousand spectators v ill probably be made at Lancaster Park for the second test against Britain on July sth. Mr S. S. Dean, of the New Zealand Rugby Union, inspected Lancaster Park in company with Mr‘C. S. MeCiillv. of the Canterbury Rugby Union, after the -Britain-Canterbury match. Mr McCully outlined a proposal for the erection of tiers of seats built up between the top of the embankment and the western fence. These seats, which will he built on to only the central portion of the hank, should accommodate another 2000 or 3000. Proposals will lie .placed before the New Zealand Union.
