For the world’s sculling championship, Ted Phelps easily defeated Barry by a distance. There was intense interest in wlmt proved to be a one-sided contest, and crouds lined both sides of the Thames. Ted Phelps, who helped to train Pearce for the Olympic Games, won the championship in 28 minutes 5 sec. He was leading nearly all the way. Tie is a son of a well-known sculler, Bossy Phelps. There was a following wind and a smooth river. Barry showed signs of distress at Devonshire Meadows, the accompanying launches slackening speed in order to keep behind him. Phelps was fifteen lengths ahead at Cheswick steps, and twenty lengths at Barnes bridge, finishing twenty-three lengths ahead.

G St. Clair, of Hamilton, has notiod the selectors of the New Zealand rowing crew for the Empire Games in Canada that he is not available. E. Waters, of Hamilton, has been chosen to take St. Clair’s place among the twelve men who are to go into training on the Wanganui River, commencing on Tuesday,' June TO. Tt is anticipated that the final selection of ton men to travel to Canada will he made about a fortnight later.
