The .Government of India has inaugurated more drastic remedies to meet the political' situation in the country by . promulgation by Lord Irwin,, the Viceroy, ol two new Ordinances -to protect shopkeepers from picketings, also to stop the movement Lor the non payment of taxes, and to deal with the attempt to tamper with the loyalty of the soldiers, the police and the Government servants. These measures have been long contemplated-, but they have been delayed in order to give the Nationalist Congressmen an opportunity to cease their activities;' These ordinances will apply immediately to the Bombay Presidency, but they may also extend to any part of the country as they are needed. It is likely : that if these measures are not- successful, the Government will, declare the National Congress all unlawful body. Total deaths in Rangoon now total ! 174. There’ are signs of improvement and shops and bazaars are opening.
