MINISTERS REMAIN IN WELLINGTON.

“We are getting down to work straight away, and from now onward, Cabinet meetings will be ludd almost daily until June 2<>th, to finalise the Government’s legislative programme,” said tiie Prime -Minister (Hon G. Forbes) in an interview following a meeting of Cabinet last niglit. Mr Forbes repeated his earlier statement, that Ministers would have to forego visits outside Wellington, and would be obliged to decline imitations to functions in the interests of legislation the Government would submit to the House.

“ We expect to have our programme well forward,” Mr Forbes added. “ Instrifctions have been issued already to Departments to have their reports ready for presentation early in tlie session.”

OFFICIAL HEADS MEET CABINET

WELLINGTON, May 29

Over seventy heads of Departments nid departmental officials met the new Prime Minister (Hon. G. Forbes) and his colleagues at an informal gathering at Parliament House yester day.

After Mr Forbes had stated subsequently the object of the gathering was to enable Ministers to meet the administrative .officers, it is understood the Prime Minister took advantage of the opportintity to place the financial position of fthe country before the officials and that he was assured of the hearty co-operation of the Public Service in the policy Government intended to pursue in that regard.

CABINET’S UNEMPLOYED COMMITTEE.

WELLI NGTON, * May 29

The re-appointment of Cabinet’s Unemployed Committee was announced by the Prime Minister (Mr Forbes) last night. The Chairman will be the Minister of Lands (Hon Ransom) and other members, the Minister of Public Works (Mr Taverner), and Minister of Labour (Mr S. G. Smith).

The Prime Minister added that a good deal of preliminary work had been done in connection with Public Works and planting operations, and it was expected that quite a number of additional men would be absorbed in the near future.
