“(Spanking .' with full responsibility I say there is not a shadow of doubt that Italy has cast the hungriest 6f eye hon Malta. If the oft mentioned scheme of a revival of the old Roman Empire means anything, Malta is designed to be.the pivot,” said Sir Augusta Baitolo, (the Maltese Minister of Education, and also Lord Strickland’s deputy),! when interviewed in London. He,.added that the present difficulties .were political, not religious, hut the ecclesiastical authorities were undoubtedly helping the Nationalists. “We only claim to take our religion from Rome . and. .our politics ifrom ourselves.”
