FUNERAL OF VICTIMS

TE AWAMUTU, May 23

The funeral of the victims of last Wednesday’s aeroplane disaster, Captain Saunders and Alfred Minchin, took place this aiternoon. A most impressive, church service was. conducted by the local Anglican, Presbyterian, and .Methodist clergy. The caskets were covered . with wreaths. That of Captain Saunders was draped in the Union Jack. The cortege-took twelve minutes to pass a given point. There was a short service, at . the graveside, where “The Last • Post” sounded at the conclusion. Later two aeroplanes flew low over the cemetery diping gracefully -as final airmen’s tribute.
