RUSSIA’S DEBT TO BRITAIN

Replying to a question in the House of Commons, the Chancellor of tiie Exchequer, Mr Snowden, said the sum due by the Government of Russia to tnis country on March 31st. last amounted to £900,000,000. Up to the present no suggestion had been received from the Soviet Government regarding the funding of this debt, but it would be amongst the questions to bo discussed in negotiations with the Soviet Government, which were to take place shortly The money lent to Russia during the war was borrowed by the British Government at over, five per cent, and the annual sum now paid by the taxpayers in interest accordingly amounted to ever £45,C00 000
