MAN’S DEATH

MELBOURNE, May 23,
The Police at dressy recovered from a dam the body of Archibald Mcl lines, who had been missing since Tuesday. It appears Mcl ones' was driving a car when the vehicle caught fire, lie jumped into the dam to extinguish his burning clothes and collapsed in the water, and was drowned.
CONSPIRACY CHARGE
SYDNEY, May 22,
At Sydney Criminal Court John (J min, aged 45, a solicitor, and Allan How-den, aged 40, a sharebroker, were convicted of conspiracy in connection with the Property Insurance Coy. Ltd. They were remanded for sentence. TWO MEN DISOWNED. BRISBANE, May 23. Two men were drowned at Tliustard. Heads when the fishing boat Laurel, with three aboard was driven on the rocks by heavy seas and wrecked. The victims were Allan "Williams and Sidney Biekie. The third person was rescued by a lighthouse keeper from the wreckage, in the last stages of exhaustion.
MAWSON’S EXPEDITION.
(Received this day at 8 a.m.) CANBERRA, May 23,
The Prime Minister announced that Sir Douglas Mawson’s. Expedition with tlie “Discovery” into the Antarctic will be continued in the coming summer, from November to March. He was convinced the work was of great national interest. Mcßobeftson, who contributed £IO,OOO last expedition, had contributed a further £6,000, which he gratefully acknowledged.
STOCK INVESTMENTS

Investments of sto k have continued to advance in steady fashion on the exchange during the past few days. For nearly a fortnight the share market ha.s been recovering in part from the depression into which it sank last year.
Price advances have been widespread, most classes of shares ha'ving benefitted.
