The County cricket match between Nottingham and Hampshire ended in a .‘burlesque. Hampshire at 6.30 on Thursday needed thirty-nine runs to win. A half hour’s , extension was granted, and when it had expired a single run was needed for victory, but stumps were pulled.

The crowd assembled in front of the pavilion but play was not . resumed till next morning. Carr led the Nottingham team on to the field dressed in lounge suits, soft hats and bowlers.
