As Egan is guilty of the Crime,, ho determines .to e,ui Marian’s investigations by getti.ijg Bradford out. Egan confers with his gang, lie gets one of them to confess to the murder of Vasetti and clear Bradford. Marian meets Bradford at the prison when lie is released and they start on, a motor trip, to New York. Obeying Egan’s orders, the chauffeur pretends to have a breakdown. During the delay the doctor responds to an emergency e.JI fond fails to return. Marian accuses. Egan, who has made a sudden apperance, of foul play. He admits his gang is holding Bradford awaiting his orders. If he phones by 12 o’clock that night the doctor’s life will be saved—and lie will phone on condition. that Marian gives him proof of her love. Marian draws a gun.
