CHILD'S DEATH

Noleen Mary Kerr, aged two years and five months, was drowned last evening in a creek near the residence of her parents, Mr arJ Mrs Michael Kerr, just outside the borough. The child was missed after five minutes absence and the father wading in the creel? found the ' body wedged under a culvert.

James Jepson, a waterrider, was to-day in the Supreme Court awarded £175 general damages, £l3 12s hospital expenses, and £26 loss of -earnings for the loss of a linger injrired virile handling cargo due to the negligence of a winchman. Plaintiff, it was stated, had received £3 8s 5d a week for sixteen weeks, compensation.

A cablegram received by the “Herald” from Mr Zane Grey, who is fishing at Papeete, says that 'lie caught a giant swordfish weighing 10401 b.
