LONDON, May 17
After eleven years the secret' of how “The Unknown Warrior” was chosen from the thousands lying in France has been revealed by the Rev. George Kendall,, then Senior Chaplain of the Sixty-third Naval Division. He was responsible, with others, for the transport to England. Rev. Kendall has disclosed that the body was chosen from five others, all robed. “We took one from the unknown graves at the Ypres salient and others from the Marne areas and the Cambrai fronts. jhe sixth one came from a. grave much further south. All six were identical in appearance, and they were placed in a hut, the door of which was locked. Next morning a General Officer entered the hut alone, and chose one coffin. The other five were reverently reburied. People have asked me: “Do we know where the soldier wno lies in Westminster comes from. Is be absolutely unknown?” My answer is “Yes—absolutely unknown!”
