COURT NEWS.

WELLINGTON, May 12. The following prisoners were sentenced by Justice Blair to-day : Reginald Carr Rex, indecent assault six months’ imprisonment. William John Byrne, indecent assault, three months’ imprisonment. John Charles Turbey, receiving stolen property, three years’ in gaol.

lb trick James Michael Heffron. breaking, entering, and theft, Borstal treatment not exceeding two years. Walter Eraser Sheriffs Harneiss, alias William Fraser . and James Barman found guilty last week of assault with intent to rob, each four years’ imprison ment. Counsel for the defence said that in view of their record, he found it hard to say anything-to influence the Court in their favour.

Justice Blair said that there was a time when robbery with violence was always punished , with hanging. The prisoners had got he’d of a halfdrunken man and throttl'd him and attempted to rob him. Harneiss had been sentenced to eighteen months’ for a similar offence in Christchurch in 1923. ’’ , y.
