At the Police Court, Duncan MacKenzic Boyd, owner of ari isolated farm at Frankton, in the Lake district, was fined £2OO by Magistrate, Levvy, for aidingm the distillation of spirits. Counsel appealed for leniency, as the accused’s circumstances were not good, and ho had. a wile and five children.
The Magistrate, who remarked that this practice must be stamped out, allowed two months for Boyd to find tne money.

A detective, giving evidence, said Hughes announced that he wanted to get the meeting away from the Communist element and he stood for King and country. That seemed to start trouble. Hughes later offered to take on all the Communists in the hall one after the other.
