All Saints Church was crowded last evening for the Organ Recital given by Air Arthur Lilly, A.R.C.O. A most.. enjoyable hour was spent listening to the varous numbers presented by the organist, and it was remarkable what -ne instrument could do in his capable hands. Mr Lilly was assisted in the programme by Mr and Mrs Arnold Perry, and Miss Ada Lynn who delighted the audience with their numbers. The recital was brought to n close with the Hallelujah chorus. The entrance to the river at the present time at low water is a somewhat remarkable one. The stream is running alongside the north wall, a monster sandbank spreading out from the entrance to Mahinanun Creek to the sea. The water from the Creek at low water enters the main channel a bare 200 feet from the north wall below the flagstaff. The month of the river is barely 150 feet wide, and swings round the end of the north wall, making an entrance to the river a very difficult one at .the present juncture. Next Wednesday should be a red letter day for hockey enthusiasts. Mawhera'girls from Greymouth play Hokitika, while United girls also from Grey-! n.o th play Kokatahi at Kokatal.i. All have signified their intention of getting late leave to attend the ball at Kokatahi on Wednesday evening. Tile additions' to the Soldiers’ Hall are now so well advanced as to aiford an impressive idea of the commodious effect of the alterations. The front portion consists of a large social and supper room capable of seating about 120 people. In addition, there is a large club room, with a gentlemens’' room next. The ladies dressing room has been enlarged considerably and the extra entrance therefrom provided direct to the hall room. The annexe etc. has now been taken into the dance hall, and the result is a greatly enlarged bali room'. The former side entrance has been dispensed with, and an attractive entrance is to be made from the front which is to be finished in nn ornamental way, and will, provide an addition to the architecture of the town. Altogether the completed hall will be a very creditable institution. It is to be opened on Wednesday week with a gala ball. Swinging out. from the line it crashed into the starting signal-post opposite the house. The post was torn out o<f the ground, and the impact and fall smashed it, jwliile the numerous signals attached were severely twisted. The railroad was. slightly damaged, hut workmen immediately set about repairing the lines, and a hold-up of traffic was averted. - A new post will be required to carry the signals, and the work of dismantling these, and again coupling them with the signalhouse is being proceeded .with.
