SYDNEY PROSECUTION DROPPED.

SYDNEY, May 9
The Crcnvn has decided not to proceed with the conspiracy charges arising out of the affairs of C'heapleys, Ltd , (cabled on February 10th) against Ellisdotij Roden, Kutner and Levy. The remainder of the defendants were acquitted during the police proceedings.
COAL MINERS DOUBTFUL. NEWCASTLE, May 9
Coal miners have been debating since, Thursday morning whether to accept the leaders advice and return to work, but there is still a considerable section adamant and they adjourned a decision till to-morrow.
FRAUD CHARGES
SYDNEY, May 10,
Following recent investigations of the affairs of certain city insurance cofm.TK-mies, Detectives arrested two-ex-officials of a company now in liquidation. Clarence 'Hogufe described as secretary and Arthur Roach, com'panv manager, were later charged with conspiracy to defraud.
DEFENCE REDUCTIONS. MELBOURNE, May 10.
Drastic reductions in units of the Australian Army abe announced by t.he Adjutant-General, Major General Dodds. The whole of the fifteen infantry brigades will be raised in future on the basis of three battalions to a brigade instead of four. Nine battalions will cease to be maintained and two Australian light horse regiments will be abandoned. These are expected to contribute £25.003 to the half million cut which is to be made in the defence estimates fi»- the next financial year.
