ANGLO-EGYPTIAN CONFERENCE

CONFER ENG'. FA ILU R E

(United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright i

LONDON, May 8

Air Head ersou announced the Anglo-Egyptian Conference failure amidst opposition cheers amJ ministerial cries of “shame,” “disgrace fu! ”

PRESS COMMENT

LONDON, May 9

The “Daily Telegraph” (Conservative) states it Is of the opinion that there is no present possibility of coming to reasonable terms with the Egyptian Government of the

Wal'd Party. By attempting it, Air Henderson, says , merely courted a rebuff. The Egyptians’ attitude in London has saved us an incredible blunder, contemplating a time limit to our military guardianship over the Suez Canal, and other Concessions which were made provisional to a full settlement. The “Morning Post” (Conservative) askes: “Has AH Henderson no pride ? It would he more appropriate’ to the great office that lie holds if instead of saying that the door is

open, he had told Egypt’s delegates that Britain would now return to the position existing before 1922. AVe have tried concession and surrender. Let us return to firmness, which has succeeded.”

CATRO, May 9

The British community here was relieved at the collapse of the negotiations. They had feared concessions to Egypt.
