William James Gibson, as guardian of - Liela Woods, . aged' 'fifteen, is blaithing"'in the Supreme' Court £1063 damages. While walking along Devon Street, last October, the- girj • was struck by a running car, owned by defendant, and knocked through - a * . The defence denies any negligence in inspect to the parking of the car, counsel suggesting interference had taken place. Mr Parry, for the plaintiff, however, anticipated the defence that the car moved 25 minutes after Beingparked, said the defendant had just motored from Masterton, and the brakes would be warm, and hold till they cooled.
ROBBERY OR A ROW? WELLINGTON, May 8
Two men; James Burmaii and Walter Fraser Sheriffs Harneiss, alias AA illiam Fraser, pleaded- not. guilty in ,the Supreme Court to robbery witli violence, and alternative charges, the party against whom the alleged offence took place being Arthur Brice, and the amount concerned £2. An attempt is being'made to show that the whole thing was a drunken brawl. 'Allegations that they bad robbed a half-drunken man who bad come to town, with,a, few pounds jn bis pockets were, made' against James Barman (labourer) and Walter Fraser Sheriffs Harneiss, alias William Frasei, engineer. In the'Supreme Court today, accused pleaded not guilty. They were jointly charged witli robbing with violence, assault with intent to rob. and assault. After a retirement of thirty minutes the jury returned ' a verdict of guilty on the second count, f And not guilty on the first and third counts. The prisoners were reraand--eel for sentence.
