THEFT CHARGES

AUCKLAND, May 8
Two charges off abettiiig the 'commission ,of crimes at. New Lynn on the evening of February 3rd were pre--1 erred in the Supreme Court against Harold John Windsor. The offences in which lie was alleged to have participated were the breaking and eii tering of a store by two men who had pleaded'guilty of attempting to break into a shop by the same two men. The verdict was one of guilty with a strong recommendation to mercy. Sentence was deferred.
Ja nies Sullivan, charged with breaking, entering and theft at a shop at Thames, was found not guilty.
THEFT FROM SHOPS.
WELLINGTON, May 8,
A verdict of guilty was returned by the jury in the Supreme Court in the case in which Patrick James Michael Heffron, aged IS, was charged with breaking and entering the shops of Gqor.ge and George. Newton, and stealing goods to of £-33 13s.

When Robert Charles Heron, salesman, came before "the Official .Assigned for his adjourned examination, he was sharply questioned as to his earnings since his bankruptcy, what ho had done with-’ the .money, and why he had not paid something into the court towards the liquid it ion of his debts. After several passages beween the bankrupt and the Official x\ssignee, the latter said he would adjourn the enquiry for bankrupt to supply further information as to what amount lie had paid to his wife,I etc., ,I’or which he must produce receipts not a mere book of entries. He c-ould see bankrupt was determined not to do things.

James Oliver Scott was ■ barged with selling liquor without u license and fined £SO, in defa-ult three month. Scott, who pleaded guilty is a brother of Gideon Scott who was committed last Friday on a .‘■uuiiar charge.
COUNTERFEIT CHARGE.
CHRISTCHURCH, May 9.
“That he did have in his posse,ssion and custody a mould intended to make a resemblance of* a shilling, knowing same, to be so adapted and intended,” was a charge preferred against Walter James Wright, a carpenter aged 52, in the Magistrate’s Court. He was remanded till May iwlU.
ATTEMPTED MURDER. .TE KUITI, May 9
A sequel to a shooting affair which occurred eight miles from Piopio on January 27th last wheg a young native Ivone Pairama, better known as Kruger Pairama, allegedly made an attempt on the life of a half caste youth known as Jimmy Davidson, by shooting at him wit ha rifle, brought Pairama to Court on a charge of attempted murder, (•.fter the shooting, which followed a quarrel between the parties who are respectively uncle and nephew, the accused came to Te Kuiti where he was taken into custody by the local, police. As there was a possibility that Davidson’s injury might have proved mortal (having received a bullet in the g’roin), on the evening of the shooting Davidson’s depositions . were taken at his bedside in Te Kuiti hospital. • After lengthy evidence had been given by fourteen witnesses, the accused pleaded not guilty and was committed to the Supreme Court. Bail was refused.
VALUELESS CHEQUES. PAHIATUA, May 9
Issuing valueless cheques on local hotelkeepers, Samuel Knight, 68, " ith several aliases and originally declared an habitual criminal out on parole since revoked, mleaded guilty betoie a Magistrate. He was committed for sentence to the Supreme Court at Wellington.
