SURVIVOR’S STATEMENTS

DELHI, May 7
The survivors of the Pegu disaster arriving at Rangoon state, the town is almost wiped out. There are 600 to 1000 dead and 30,000 are homeless. Several houses' with unhabitants completely disappeared into huge fissures in the ground and all the shops | were wrecked. The post office and .the railway station were severely damaged. The destruction of bridges and.the permanent way caused dislocation of service.
When the gaol collapsed many prisners escaped and troops of polit e were sent from Rangoon to round them up, and prevent looting.
Injured and killed are still being extricated from the ruins and taken to the hospital where many deaths from injuries are reported hourly. Tlie town of Tv ay a also suffered severely from the earthquake. Many were buried alive by the collapse of a mosque and a court house. All bazaar buildings were wrecked. It is reported the isnml of Tjongwa, in the Hanthawaddy district, completely disappeared. The casualties are unknown.
The death roll is estimated at fifty
