“The Lawless Legion,” Ken Maynard’s latest starring vehicle (western) which opens on Friday night at the Princess Theatre, is a fast, concise, well-told’ story with' jirst the fight' amount- of romance, thrills and drama to make it a typical Maynard and tlm kihd-.tht- has mbved this'star into the high position lie holds, to'-day. The story deals With a huge cattle drive in which Ken and • his , hbfse Tarznil are entrusted with the job of driving them from Texas to' the: border.. TM$ ; tremendous herd of cattle represents’ the combined stock of an entire community who find; it' riecrisskiry to s6e;other grazing lands because of 1 a conti pued drought. l The picture opens' with Ken in gaol where he has been' put for disturbing the peace, but as soon as he starts on the trail with between eight and ten thousand bovines ip' chaperon, the fun begins. “The Lawless Legion” derives its name from the band of organised thieves who not only, endeavour to -steal the herd, but , dq! it and at the same time ruin Ken’s reputation, and the only girl. It i° thjen up to him to get them back which'he does, but hot until after tremendous odds. Charlesß'. Rogers, orodmers of the Maynard series, and his director Harry .J. Broiyrr certainly, know the audience appeal for the “Lawless Legion” is a real drama with ■ill the a'ctibih that could’•possibly be '•rammed' into a six-fObl, motion picture. There are several stunts performed, that, to tell about" would sound impossible. blit seeing is believing.- A very capable cast is Nora Lane who plays the feminine, role', Paul Hurst and J. P. DiicGowan 1 , five two avch villain 0 are very. good. Frank Rice and Howard Tniesdell are seen to advantage. However, the entire picture belongs to Ken arid Tarzan. and whriri they arc on the screen, one hadn’t time for numb of anything else.
