DEER CONFERENCE

CHRISTCHURCH, May 7

The conference convened by the Government to consider the menace caused by the increase of deer herds, was opened this morning, the Hon. P.* A. de la Perrelle presiding. He said it was to be considered that the first step to deal with the situation was to remove absolutely the protection mi all deer'and chamois and though he would he quite agreeable to protection being reimposed for a short shooting season under license, to give an acclimatisation society an opoprtunity of obtaining revenue for further deer destruction. The conference is proceeding.
