The death occurred at Dunedin on Saturday afternoon of Mr CJeorge Meginbotham, who was transferred from Greymouth last February, in the locomotive branch, Railways Department. Deceased, who wa« about 37 years of age, had only a brief illness, And underwent an operation. He is survived fbji srwril ■sisters and brothers, at 'Wellington. His wife, who was a daughter of Mr and Mrs J. R. Coburn, of Greymouth, died at Wellington nearly two years ago.
The death took place on Saturday of Mrs Eva Butcher, wife of Mr T. H, Butcher, Shakespeare fi'Jreot, Greymouth. The late Mrs Butcher was 5(3 years of age, and had -been a resident of Greymouth for many years. Her death was not unexpected, as she bad been ailing for some months. During her life she was an earnest worker for St, Paul’s Methodist Church as a member of the choir aiid the Ladies’ Guild, and as Sunday School visitor. She was also a past President of the Women’s Christian Temperance Union on the West Coast. She is survived by her husband and a grown-up .family—Stanley and Lee (Christchurch), and Mesdames iVic. Oir Sunday last Mr Michael Ryan, an inmate of the O’Connor Home, Westport, celebrated his IGOth. birthday. Mr Ryan was one of the first inmates, having been in the Home for 12 years.
Mr Robert Knuehil, a workman in the employ of Mr Calvert, contractor and builder, fell from a ladder while working at the Commercial Bank, Westport, and was removed to the hospital.

Matters at the Soldiers’ Hall tonight will be very busy in preparation for the Chrysanthemum Show opening to-morrow afternoon at 2 o’clock. The judging starts as early as possible, and exhibitors who cannot deliver exhibits to-night should be as early as convenient in the morning. There is sure to be a brave display- in all sections. The ladies’ committee will be conducting afternoon tea arid supper will also bo served. There is sure to be a crowded attendance at night for the musical programme, and to hear first hand the progress reports of the Parnell Election.
In all there' will be some sixteen sessions at the forthcoming Competitions, so that the wisdom of securing a season ticket will be apparent. The contributors’ ticket is £l, and covers the family; the ordinary family ticket is 6s; the adult (only) ticket is 4s; and the juvenile ticket is 2s. These prices cover ..the full sixteen sessions, but apart from the Demonstration Concerts fixed for the last two nights of the festival for which a special charge is made. The Society is hoping for more financial support this season through contributors' tickets, and these with the ordinary tickets are now on general sale. In connection with the .'orthcoming festival a programme booklet is now' issued supplying the timetable for the full period, and will he a very handy form of reference as to the items for each session of the Competitions.
