THE: SENIOR COMPETITION
The senior games of the West Coast Rugby Union open on Saturday afternoon, when the three Hokitika teams will be engaged. Excelsiors travel to Brunner, Rivals are set down to play United at Greymouth, jlnd Kiwis meet Blaketown on Cass Square. The other game is Stars v. Cobdcii. it is too early in the season to guage the strength of, the several teams, so that liuerest will be shown in to-mor-row’s games as it will give some idea of strength, ,though form will be at a discount, as the warm weather that has prevailed up to the last few days has prevented most players from taking on serious training. The Excelsior team announced yesterday shows some defections from their strength of last season, for which the newly formed Rival Club is in some measure responsible.
With eight senior teams in the competition there will be no byes, and this will tend' to keep the interest in the play, so that the season should prove an attractive one.
In yesterday’s issue the ltivalsUnited match was stated to be played at Hokitika, bat this was a mistake' in the information supplied, the match being set down to take place at Greymouth.
The Junior fixtures of . the Westland Sub-Union also commences to-morrow-wnen Excelsiors play Arahura at Arahura. A car for the conveyance of players leaves Newmans at 2 o’clock snarp., ■ Kiwi juniors travel to Rimu and play Rimu juniors.
