A JUDGMENT SUMMONS

WELLINGTON,. May 2,
That ho had denied himself the ordinary necessaries of life and had lived on crayfish and bread in order vo support ins people in Italy, was tho story told in toe Police Court by a young Italian, who appeared before a Magistrate on a judgment summons for £33. 19s. The Magistrate said Tie wpuld make an order .and unless, lie said -addressing the defendant, “You can. live on less than 30s weekly,, you had better send a little less than £3 weekly to Italy. In the meantime your creditors in New Zealand must be paid. I will make an order that the debt be paid at the rate of 10s weekly.”
REASONS FOR INCURRING DEBT
.WELLINGTON, May 2. *■ The Jjiouse, which lie declared as . a “Morgue,” and his invalid wife; were reasons advanced by a waterside worker for his getting into debt when he appeared before the Magistrate on. a judgment .summons for £2O 17s. Defendant said his average earnings were £5 per week. He paid £2 5s for rent. “I took the house on condition, it was warm and dry,” he said. Counsel: “Was it?”
Defendant (emphatically): “No. We were frozen out, blown out and washed out. It is not a house it is a morgue.” Defendant was ordered to discharge the debt at the rate of £1 .per month.

FULLER’S ENTERPRISE. WELLINGTON, May 2
Fullers have completed arrangements to acquire the sole interest of Fuller Hayward Organisation linking up with the Australia interest. C. Olliver of Christchurch joins the hoard and will act as Chairman in the absence of B. or- J. Fuller, and Hayward vice-Pre-sident. The head office will be removed from Auckland to Wellington. It is expected to eifqct economies by - the reorganisation, permitting lower prices of admission. - Approximately! four million capital is concerned. Where necessary the existing theatres will be brought' up to luxury point.

PALMERSTON N„ May 2.
Frederick -Ellis, of Otaki, a passenger on the Napier-Wellington express yesterday was badly injufed in. an accident at Linton station. Ellis was leaning out of the platform, of the first /carriage apparently waving to friends when his arm caught the fork of a tablet. ’The victim was dragged from a carriage .and hurled thirty-two feet down the line. He was removed to the Palmerston North Hospital suffering from a mangled' wrist, broken ribs and scalp wounds. Subsequently it was found necessary, to amputate the arm at the elbow. He is progressing satisfactorily.
