In the meantime your creditors in New Zealand must be paid. I will make an order that the debt be paid at the rate of 10s weekly.”

Defendant said his average earnings were £5 per week. He paid £2 5s for rent. “I took the house on condition, it was warm and dry,” he said. Counsel: “Was it?”

Defendant (emphatically): “No. We were frozen out, blown out and washed out. It is not a house it is a morgue.” Defendant was ordered to discharge the debt at the rate of £1 .per month.

PALMERSTON N„ May 2.

Frederick -Ellis, of Otaki, a passenger on the Napier-Wellington express yesterday was badly injufed in. an accident at Linton station. Ellis was leaning out of the platform, of the first /carriage apparently waving to friends when his arm caught the fork of a tablet. ’The victim was dragged from a carriage .and hurled thirty-two feet down the line. He was removed to the Palmerston North Hospital suffering from a mangled' wrist, broken ribs and scalp wounds. Subsequently it was found necessary, to amputate the arm at the elbow. He is progressing satisfactorily.
