BIG EARTHQUAKE

LONDON, May 1. New York reports that a big earthquake has occurred at Tokio. No news has been received in London from Tokio,

Regarding the London report of the earthuake at Tokio, the director of Riverview Observatory states that the record of it on his seismograph was very small. It indicated it had occurred in the vicinity cf Japan.

An earthquake was felt here early til’s morning but there have been no reports of casualties or of any great damage. . The central meteorological observatory stated the centre of activity was probably at sea seventy-five miles north east of Tokio.
The earthquake, 'which started at 12-.58 this morning, w-as registered on seismographs for thirty minutes. It was perceptible to the residents of Tokio for five minutes. Scientists attribute the ’quake to activity in the “Outer Tuscartra earthquake ibelt.”
