GIRL DRIVER KILLED

TE AWAMUTU, April 30,

Francis Elizabeth Jary, aged ‘2l years, .the eldest .(laugher of Frank Jary, farmer, was killed instantly/this afternoon as a result . of a tractor overturning. ,

She was assisting her; father in a recently-ploughed field, and was trailing the harrows behind, the tractor. It is surmised that the harrdws caught, a piece of timber; causing/the tractor to overturn backwards, 'thus crushing the driver. Though there were several working in the paddock, the accident was not witnessed. The first attention to the tragedy was attracted through tlie fact of the tractor engine having stopped. • It was then noticed that the front wheels of the tractor weie in the air.

When extricated, the girl still held the steering wheel,, and the brakelever in the normal driving position. Her death had been instantaneous. The tractor was working on flat country, and there is no apparent cause for the accident other than a short piece of timber found near the harrows.
