SECOND PAY’S RESULTS

GREYMOUTH, April 28. The Greymouth races are being concluded to-day in line weather.

Trial Handicap:—(4) Arrowmaid 1, (1) Rapina 2, (2) Fair Go 3. Sor: Lady Mid, Eaton Hall. Won by three lengths. Time 1.10 1-5. Dobson Trot:—(1) Tenedos 1, (9) Vican 2, (6) Denver Hinds 3. All started. Won by 2J lengths. Time 3.18 2-5.

Railway Handicap:—(l) Deluge 1, (C) Saggitarius 2, (71 Gourmet 3. Also ran : Arch Arrow, Silent, CourtliU R,ina Mangu, Caliburn. Won by two lengths. 'I line 1.25. Presidents’ Handicap, 1 mile:— Baby Bun 1, Smithereens 2.

CHILD DIES OF BURNS

DARGAVILLE, April 28

Eva, the 17-months old daughter of Charles and E. Powell, of Maropin, died on Saturday as a result of burns received by falling into the fire. The ciiikl was left in the charge of her sister of eight years of age while the parents were away milking. On the mother’s return she found the children had been burned. She applied remedies and the patient seemed to he improving but took a bad turn. A medical man was sent for but the child was dead before he arrived. A verdict of accidental death was returned by the Coroner.

MINISTERIAL TOUR

DARGAVILLE

April 28

The Minister of Lands (Hon G. W. Forbesi and Departmental Officers arrived on Sunday evening, and with Mr J. G. Coates, member for Kaipara, is engaged in an extensive tour of the district. He will receive deputations and be entertained in the evening. He leaves for the north via Waipoua Forest and Rawone to-morrow morning, going light round the Peninsula and returning to Wliangare'i at the weekend.
