THOUGHTS FOR THE TIMES
AN T ADVERSE' BALANCE,
Trade statistics for the national financial year, issued recently show the results of price decline. Exports decreased by more than eight millions as compared with the previous year, and imports increased by four millions, and the net result was a conversion of an excess of exports of twelve millions into an excess of imports of £122,000. jii other words, the position is worse by more than twelve millions. The financial year, however, is not generally talcen as the period of computation of production and exports, and if we compare the detailed figures for the year with those for the season, we see that the latter are rather more favourable. —Auckland Star.
