FRANCE v. WALES'.
RECORD CROWD WITNESS GAME
(United Press Association— By -Kleotnc Telegraph —Copyright).
(Received this day at 8 a.m.) PARIS, April 21
France fervently wanted to defeat Wales at Colorabis Stadium, not tor the sake of beating Wales but winning the championship. Had France won she would also have gained the championionship for the first time in history. There was a record crowd and the gates were shut an hour before the start. Honours in the scrums were fairly even. The French backs lacked method and chances went begging. The game was a trifle rough. There were numerous instances of kicking and punching and after the interval further rough play caused the referee to convene a meeting of both teams for a lecture, but the roughness only increased and the game was spoilt by stoppages due to minor injuries and warnings. The Frenchmen got over the line and claimed a try but the referee ordered a scrum. The crowd let loose pandemonium which reigned until the finish.
