The civic farewell to Dr Baird takes place to-night at the Town Hall at 7.80 o’clock. At Princess Theatre on Friday night Anz ae Day) there will be- a concert entertainment, tendered by the leading local amateurs to the B.S.A. buildingff fund. A programme of special interest will be submitted and should draw a largo attendance.

The glaciers in South Westland were patronised freelv over the week-end. In addition to tourists travelling by the service cars, there were numerous private car parties, and accommodation at the glacier hotels, was taxed very greatly. A party of young men from Christchurch who left on Thursday, tramped across Browning’s Pass into Westland. The Kanicn Cricket Clubs hall at Kaniori Public Hall last evening drew a very large attendance and proved very successful. The Melody Five presented a splendid musical programme.

At the Soldiers’ Hall to-night at o.JU a farewell 'presentation is to be made to Air and Airs'T. Jhi. Y. Seddon, leaving at the week-end for Wellington, there to take up residence meantime. The function will take the form of a social to afford the fullest opportunity to the guests to meet old lneiuts and acquaintances. There will be music and naming, and supper will be served. A number of visitors will be present. The local committee lias made very complete arrangements for the gathering which is sure to draw a very large attendance.

The Soldiers’ Hall has been made gay with bunting for to-night’s social function to do Honour to Air and Airs Seddon who are leaving on Saturday •for Wellington, The large hall lias been befiagged for the occasion, and no doubt will be crowded to-night. Doors open at 8 o’clock, and dancing will commence at 8.30, to music provided by the Black Hand Orchestra. About 9.30, following a short musical programme, a presentation will be made to All* and Mrs Seddon by the Unairman of the Social Committee, Air ■T. A- Murdoch, whose remarks will be supplemented by other speakers.

On Atizac Day the commemoration services will follow the former arrangemenus, The churches will hold forenoon servies as has been customary and the public service will be held in the afternoon in the Princess Theatre, when the military parade, including girl guides and Boy Scouts will take place, and headed by the Band will march: to' the Theatre. Following the servicej the Parade will march to the South African and Great War memorials, and military honors paid. Afterwards the R.S.A. will march to tlm State School grounds and place a wreath on the memorial, thereafter visiting the cemetery where some 40 wreaths will be laid on the graves of returned men, nurses and war workfers. The Last Post will be sounded at toe Cemetery. On returning to the Soldiers’ Hall the returned men and ...eir wives with friends will be entertained at afternoon tea, all exservice men being specially invited.
