DOBSON MINE

FINDING OF ENQUIRY.

The Court of Enquiry into the dispute at Dobson mine which commenced, on Saturday morning at tiie Greymonth Courthouse, rvas adjourned until yesterday, when it resumed at the Miners’ Hall, Wallsend. From the beginning the hall was thronged with interested miners, who followed the proceedings closely until 5,30 p.m., when the Court adjourned to the Greymouth Courthouse for. the decision and the final addresses of the representatives of the parties concerned. The Court was comprised of Mr W. H. Woodward, S.M., (chairman), Mr r. Smeaton (President of the United Mine Workers) and Mr J. Watson (Superintendent of the Taupiri Mines.) After a retirement of one and a-half hours, G>o Court ; returned the following verdict:—

“The majority off the Court finds that the Deputy,. William Chetwynd, was guilty of negligence on Tuesday, March 11, 1930, in the performance of the duty laid on him bv Regulation 103 of the Mining. Act. We are satisfied that his breach of duty was not due to cowardice j arid the evidence given gives ns no reason to.,think that he is habitually, careless'in the- discharge of his duties, ~ -His ticket is suspended for three months.”

"Mr Watson, desires to record his dissent, on the grounds that Ghetwynd’s action dhl not in his opinion create a source of danger to the men in the mine.”
