(By Telegrapn—Per Press Association.)
WELLINGTON, April 14
The use of the Public Works Department’s plant on a rental basis as an alternative to a reduction in the present rates of pay is the proposal the Minister of Public Works is submitting to co-operative parties engaged in the construction of the Tawa Flat tunnel.
Consideration was given to the proposal at a meeting of men at Johnsonville, when a resolution was carried 'expressing dissatisfaction with the Minister's suggestion. The Hon. Ransom explains the orginal contract price was based or the work l>eing carried out • without the heavy plant the Department hac' installed, and a clause was inserted in the contract papers that the price would be revised when the plant was working. “The plant is now in operation but a revision of the- price lias not been made and this is what L propose.” said the Minister.,
