FOREMAN'S REPORT
Tar-sealing was carried on Weld St. to the railway crossing, and in Sewell 6t. between the clock tower and the Post Office. Growth was cut in Britain St., in Sale St., and in Hoffman St. and sections of Brittan and Sale Sc. footpaths chipped and cleaned. Domes were ! put in at several street corners. The corners of Stafford and Bealey Sts., and the corner of Weld and Bealey Sts were picked up and levelled. Blackberries and gorse was also cleared on a reserve in Sale St. Crossings were put in at J. Schroder’s in Sewell St., and at J. Stewart’s in Davie St., and a culvert on the north boundary repaired. A trap was also put in Sewell St. drain.
The water supply took up considerable time this month. Six new pipes were put in Weld St. water main, three near the Clock Tower, and three near uie corner of Revell and Weld Sts., while a blow out took place beyond wie Reservoir, and one at Tucker Flat, the consequence was a large number of leaks caused by the falling of the pressure; these were repaired. The deptli of water in the reservoir for the month was 2ft. llin. —Received.
LAKE WATER SUPPLY
During the month, the weather being fine, and the lake and river low, we carried [the pipe line auto the lake. We had to cross the present line about four chains from the lake, and take the line inside the old one, on account of a scon! in the river, which made it unsafe to lay concrete pipes; the deviation was about three chains long and averaged six feet deep. This brought the present line safely inside the old line, and enabled us to lay the Hume pipes right to the weir, connecting on to a cast iron pipe laid through it, and then for a distance of one chain into the Take with llin. iron pipes.
AYe are now on No. 4 section, which when completed, will connect with the present line, the distance is 28 chains and should the weather hold favourable a month should sec it near completion. The length of line laid up to tlie present is seventy chains.
—Received. A 1 AY UK’S REPORT.
I have to report that the 'I own Clerk and myself represented the Council at the meeting of the Regional p lanning Board at Grcymoutli on the 10th. inst.
Air I). J. Evans, representing the Westland County and Air AI. Houston representing the Hokitika Harbour Board were also present.
The representatives of loyal bodies affirmed the principle of regional planning, and on learning that the Butler County was likely to be a separate unit, the Hokitika representatives asked that AVestland be also treated as a separate unit, but if Boiler is included, making one region for the AYest Coast, then Hokitika is prepared to be included in that region instead of having a separate unit. The evidence given before, the Board will be placed before the Town Planning Board in AYelliiigton, who will decide the boundaries of the Regional Planning District or Distrcts. Received and adopted, a copy to be sent to tlie Town Planning Board at Wellington. In reply to an enquiry by ATr Heenan it was decided that the I ore man confer with motor authorities as to the position of the dome at the corner of Gibson Quay and Sewell Street. The Council rose at 8.15 p.m.
