(Official Wireless.) RUGBY, April 8
A great journalist was honoured today. when Mr C. P. Scott, who recently retired from ohe editorship of the “Manchester Guardian” after fiftyseven years’ service, received the freedom of the city of Manchester. The Lord Mayor of Manchester, Mr R. N. Barclay, who presided, said that Air Scoft regard(>d his position as a public trust. He had fought to secure justice and freedom both at home and abroad. No one had done more to increase the prestige of British journalism throughout the world. He was an international fig lire. AYliat had probably inspired the greatest admira-t-.oii was liis absolute fearlessness. More than once Mr Scott bad literally taken Iris professional life in his bands by espousing a manifestly unpopular cause.
