One of the liveliest banquets on'record took place at the the Hotel National in honour of a Republican, Sqnor Domingo, in connection with his book “Where Goes Spain?” Five hundred guests were present.'
The speakers had been warned not to abuse the new Government’s permission to hold public gatherings, but one of them declared that he was not going to mince words, and attacked King Alfonso.
Immediately a Government official declared'the banquet suspended, called ; n dozens of police with drawn swords, and the diners fled amid a pandemo.nium of wrecked tables and smashed crockery. Eight were arrested, but later were released.
