WASHINGTON, April 10
A message from Daytona Beach stales Kaye Don drove J'is great oar over the course for the sixth time, !.i it pri K-i iaiiv due to the condition of the beach, lie was uiialne to do (Hitter tiia.ii 182.741 miles an. hour. At the end of lour trips over tile nine mile course iio gave up the attempts for the day, laying the blame on the imperfect course, and the fact that the windshield was clouded severely, especially while he was hound in a southward direction. “With the windshield collided,” Eon stated, “it. is easy to understand how Lockhart ran his ear info the ocean here a year ago.”
Since Don ran last, a fire has destroyed two-thirds of the wooden stand from which a tew persons watched the runs to-clay. Don first came to the beach to-day driving a stock model roadster to feel out the course, but he got no f i thar than tli© kilometre main, when ho was iforced to step, with a burned out bearing. In the first run south with the racer, Don tossed off the protective disc from one wheel. The less was neither serious nor dangerous. National Guardsmen were unable to find the lost disc.
Although once troubled briefly by backfiring, experts are ' encouraged over the car’s performance. The ear since readjustments has gained acceleration of the super chargers for Lime, which emitted a piercing whine, indicating their speed had been increased and the pressure was greater. This is the objective for which Don has been striving. It is expected lie will have little further carburettor difficulty.
