-Detectives, ai?e confronted with the difficult task of finding the bandits who held up the Mudgee train near midnight and escaped with over £4OOO in notes grid silver representing a portion of the railwajwnep’s pay.

Car and cart-Wheel tracks were dis-. covered near the -scene to-day. They led into a bus-hj. where a wire fen e was cut apparently by somebody anxious, to avoid detection.

The police in- tne Penrith district (at the,foot, of/ the mountains) came upon two men'-camped at the bank of the Nepean Riyey. Both of them were arrested, one fop. having an unlicensed revolver, and thee.other was charged with vagrancy, .-Both were remanded.

BOX FOUND 200 MILES AWAY,

Regarding the,train robbery, a telegram received from Binnaray,- beyond iuudgee, two hundred miles from the scene of the train, hold-up, states a railway cash box - identical with the one stolen has been,found on-the. side of a road, and is. being sent back to Sydney It was possible for the bandits to cover this distance by car between tne time of ths robbery and the hour at which the cash box was found.

DETECTIVE'S SEARCH FRUITLESS

Tho car and wheel trades discovered yesterday had no connection with the bandits and the amazing getaway of the thieves is puzzling the police. The stolen ibag had cash to the value of about £18,000,; £l3;qoo’ of which was in cheques, which wore, cancelled.
