GHANDI’S STAND

DELHI, April 8
Thousands of villagers journeyed to Aat in the Boihbay presidency, expecting to see Mahatma Gaiidhi arrested. They were disappointed,- 'the authorities completely ignoring the Mahatma, who exhorted his hearers to abandon their attitude ’of non-violence and to resist to the utmost the confiscation of any part of the small quantity of salt which he and his 1 followers distributed.
Gandhi is urging the women especially, td defy the authorities to touch them which wdukf constitute a deadly insult in native eyes.
Demonstrators have been arrested in several places, 'and sentenced to terms of imprisonment. ' Tij-m. There was a fracas between Ghandi’s volunteers and ,:; the police in Delhi. It resulted in slight injuries to seven of the former who were 'then carried through the streets as evidence of the “Government’s l ‘'repression” methods.
