ALLEGED ASSAULT

Last evening'at’ Kok'atahi. during the progress of the ball at* tile Public Hall, Mr B. Stephens,': owner of a light motor lorry had taken a load of passengers from town to the hall. Later, C. Hende, entered the hall bleeding profusely About the face and stated he had been as- 4 saulted and the lopy had been driven away. Later the. lorry was found in the river about fyalf a milo away at the end of Kelly’s road, having been driven over the .end of the, road and having dropped into the river some 8 to 10 feet below.
The services of Mr A. Nancekivell’a lorrv was obtained from Hokitika and the lorry was ultimately,,,drawn ;back on to the road and later , was towed into Hokitika. '
The steering gear was damaged and the lorry, somewhat knocked about.
Constable Drummond, who , was at A Kokntahi made an investigation and further enquiries are IpiijLg- today. Ah •' :*»'
