CANADIAN TRADE
PREFERENCES WITH AUSTRALIA

That Canada is ready to negotiate a complete exchange of preferences with Australia, is announced by Mr Jstales Malcolm, Minister oi Trade and Commerce, to a delegation representing lumber interests of British Columbia. The matter will he fully discussed, he said, with Mr Fenton when he visits Ottawa' on the wayhome from the Naval Conference. Mir Malcolm hinted that preliminary negotiations were now in progress. Action is particularly sough! in connection with Canadian lumber The delegation told the Minister that a recent trip to Australia showed that the country was heartily in favour of extending trade within the Empire on a fair basis.
Mr Malcolm reminded the delegation that his predecessor, the late Hon. Rolbb, two years ago had expressed full accord with the proposal for full preference between the twe countries.
The delegation suggested that the Dominion Government should establish Canadian credits in Australian banws to facilitate the present financia. conditions in Australia, Their visit there had shown the wisdom of some such arrangemeht. It had also shown a decided desire on the part of Australia that Canada, should import Australian wines which the delegation stated appeared decidedly reasonable and possible. ___
