Amazing allegations were made by a police-agent who declared lie had been kidnapped by a gang of men, battered over the head,'hound, gagged and menaced with threats of being shot, that he was held captive and at times chained the legs for a fortnight, and that he was forced to write letters repudiating evidence which he had given ail oath in the Police Court., A detective raided a house in the city near the police headquarters and found the agent. T\vo men in the building were arrested. The man con-i-erned is Vigilio Cace. He asserted he had consented to go to a party with another mail, and when in a lonely (spot, the car was stopped. Cace alighted and was immediately struck down. Upon regaining senses he. found himself chained to a. bed post. He was bound and gagged during the next fourteen days.

Cace alleged he was held captive, sometimes being under the guard of a man armed with a rifle. He was fed on bread and .water. Four men forced him to write statements making allegations against the police. They .threatened to shoot him upon his refusal and prodded him .with revolvers. Cace then contrived to plan to escape. He told the men lie had an appointment with a man who owed him money. Cacc was allowed out under guard, and a threat of being shot if he attempted to escape. He noticed a man whom he knew in the street and informed hinn of his predicament, his friend forthwith rushed to the police station and detectives were soon on the spot. Further arrests are expected.
