COMPENSATION ACT
THE GOVERNMENT’S COMMITTEE. (By Telegraph—Press Association). WELLINGTON, April 2. Maintaining that there was no reason why the Labour Movement should further support the present Government, the National Council of the Alliance of Labour has definitely decided to declare “black” the Committee which is at present investigating tlie operation of the Workers’ Compensation Act. In calling on its affiliations to act in a similar manner, the Alliance accuses the Government of breaking its promises and attempting to foil the workers. Tlq; decision was arrived at by a meeting of the National Council today, and was the outcome of .-the effort of the Minister of Labour (Hon. \\ . A. Veitch) to reopen his question ol the workers’ representation on the committee.
According to statenltents made tonight by the Minister and the Chairman of the Committee (Mr S. G. Smith,! M.l 1 .,) the committee will proceed in spite of the decision of the Alliance. Air Veitch said it was the function of the Government to appoint the Committee, and he had no intention of transferring the functions of the Crown from Parliament House to the Trades Hall.
