Tile newspapers give prominence to an open letter to the Prime Minister Air Kamsay AlacDonahl publish in the llearst press o? the United States, attacking Britain’s part ill tli ■ Naval Conference, and asking Air AlacDynald “whether he is the friend that he pretends to be or is the slyest and trickiest diplomat that has come out o'f England since Balfour sank the American Navy at the 11)2“ Conference.” The British Foreign Office declines to indicate the feeling in official circles regarding the American press attack, hut newspapers of every shade condemn the attack. The “Sunday Tier's” says:— “Mr Alat-Donald has critics here on other issues, but lie has the nation’s back ing in an unwearying effort to achieve a conference success. The British public will agree the American can strictures are reckless and blackguardly.” 'The “Diiilv Express” ' says ■ ; t hopes Mr MacDonald wil not' lie deflected from bis firmness against any embroilment of Britain in Alediterranean conflicts bv the gale that Air Randolph Heaust’s press is blowing across the Atlantic. The “Daily Herald” .says:—“The attack is the culminating Honrst press, attempt to check progress towards naval disarmament. President Hoover, not Air Heanst, speaks for America . ’ ’ The United States Naval Delegation refuses to comment on the JTearst press statement.
