CONFERENCE

COMMERCIAL TRAVELLERS. By Telegraph—Per Press Association.^ DUNEDIN, March 27. The nineteenth annual Conference of the United Commercial Travellers’ aiul Warehousemen’s Association was held to-day in the Commercial Travellers’ Club' Rooms, Mr F. W. Mitchell (United President) presiding. 'Hie conference was opened by Hon. Air Taverner, Afinister of Railways, who said that be had gone carefully through the agenda paper of the conference, and had noted that many important matters would come up for consideration, and be could assure them, that any remits the conference saw fit- to pass on to the Government would receive the most sympathetic consideration,, particularly those questions concerning the Association’s activities in regard to charity. AToroover, any matters concerning the railways would receive his personal consideration as Afinister of Railways.

The .Association's activities in connection with charity were most praiseworthy, and it was not so much in actual monetary expenditure involved in them as the spirit at the back of them. Frequently conferences resolved themselves into a more or loss informal elmt, hut the present gathering was one of practical 'businessmen, and he had no doubt that much good would come of it. He cordially wished it the great success it deserved. The following remits were dealt with :

From Canterbury centre : “That 1 the Board- of Management of the United Commercial Travellers and Warehousemen's Association’s accident and (sickness insurance scheme he asked to give consideration" to extending the benefits to include ' sickness on similar lines to those of the Australian Association’s accident- and sickness insurance policy ” This was lost. From Canterbury: “That consideration be "given to the "question of the payment- of commission to the affiliated associations on the monies collected on hehalf of the United Association.” This was carried. From Canterbury: “That consideration be given to the 'formation of "Employment Departments.” This was adopted. From Canterbury: “That a register of the Association’s Carriers be compiled, and that advertisements lie secured for the ‘New Zealand Traveller’ upon similar lines, to hotels ; and further that the-." Association’s registration badge he-.granted to such carriers, So that Association members will know Association Carriers.” This was carried.

The following office bearers were elected:—President, Air C. C. Baeli (Auckland); Hon. Treasurer. Mr AY. •T. Wane-hop ; Auditor, Air TT. Bieknell Third AFombor of the Board of Afanagemeut of the Accident and Insurance Fund, Afr AY. A. Drake; two members of the Board of Aranngement of “The New Zealand Traveller,” Afessrs AV. A. Drake and S. A. Orchard. Tt was derided that the next annual conference be held in Auckland.
