FALSE PRETENCES. B Telegraph—Press Assn., Copyright AUCKLAND, March 27. John Ryan alias Hamilton, aged 60, was arrested at Hamilton. He imposed on some of the largest firms in Auckland, obtaining nearly £4OO in goods and money by valueless cheques. He pleaded guilty at the Police Court to-day to nine'charges of false pretences. Ryan had £79 when arrested. On some other charges he was dealt with in country courts. Chief Detective Hammond said most of the clothing accused got by fraud was thrown into the harbour. He said he did not want it. Air Hunt S.AI.. said accused had wHPmi him a letter from gaol. He would read this and remand Ryan til! to-morrow for sentence.
